Durty Nelly's opened its doors in September 1994 after many months of blood, sweat and cold beers!   It was a labor of love, and a gamble, but one that has lasted all of these years.

Gabriel and Shauna Dixon, Nelly's original owners, emigrated from Ireland in 1986 leaving family and friends behind in search of new opportunities.  At that time, many of their peers were leaving a country that was experiencing a very tough economy, and many made the decision to leave. Some would return but most never did.

Both Gabriel and Shauna were employed in the Bloodstock Industry (horses) in Ireland, and continued in the same industry on arriving in the U.S.  To this day, Gabriel is still very involved in the industry, and is also a well known figure both nationally and internationally on the racing, breeding and training scene.

In the early 90's Gabriel's brother Bernard, joined him in Florida with a dream to open an Irish Pub together.  They spent many months searching for the perfect location.  Sadly and tragically the dream was shattered when  Bernard died unexpectedly.  Determined to honor his brother's wishes Gabriel continued the search and found a gem, with all the charm of a pub similar to one they would have shared many a pint in at home and dedicated it to the memory of Bernard. 

Nelly's has seen her share of life's ups and downs over the years. Customers have come and gone and come back again.   Hosting weddings, wakes and many interesting events, the people that have crossed our threshold bring with them unique stories, personalities and hearts and everyone of them is a huge part of our family and a home away from home

that is fondly known to all simply as ... Nelly's.
